Buki The Soloist 😂

I hadn't recalled this particular embarrassing experience in years, until 2 days ago.

Sometime during my undergrad years (2007 or 2008, not sure now), I belonged to a Christian music group.

On what was to be our very first musical concert, the group leader entrusted me with the task of opening the programme with a rendition of Cece Winans' 'Alabaster Box'.

So I scored the song ehn, to the point that it became my daily anthem as we moved closer to the D-day. 'No lele' I thought.

Till today, I still don't know why he asked me to do it. I was the least qualified or maybe totally unqualified sef.

So on the concert day, my knees grew weaaaakkkkkkk.

But of course, people have initial nerve-wracking moments before a major task and still go ahead to deliver all the time right?

Tueh! In my case, there was no happily ever after.

Brethren, I messed up. As in, I messed up baaaaad. Eh God, I'm still feeling ashamed as I typed this.

One thing I'd never forget was the look on the  keyboardist's face 🤣.

Pressing the keys with so much passion and energy that was meant to reroute me to the key that fitted my range, the gentleman glared at me as he mouthed the words 'this is the key!!!!'.

But no, this bloody alto singer was pitching right from the words 'the room grew still'.

😂😂😂.

Eventually he just went along, and joined everyone to enjoy my screeching, highs, lows, and lots of flatssss.

Let me reiterate, it was a complete disaster.

It was the kind of rendition you'd find on Project Fame West Africa's FUNNY PLAYLIST.

What if I told you I did that solo again at the second edition of our concert?

I really should ask Frank why he didn't give up.

Anyway,  the second one wasn't as bad as the first. It wasn't fantastic either, but I managed to at least sing on key because I rehearsed with a keyboard.

If you think this is the part where I'll conclude with a moral of the story,  ngwanu, I shall only disappoint thee.

All I get from remembering that day are bouts of laughter 😂 and 🙈🙈🙈.
